What do Princess Diana of Great Britain, Ruud Van Nilstelrooy
the Netherlands football icon, Venkkaiah Naidu, Indian minister for urban
development and I have in common? We all were born on the same day, that’s right
July the 1st. Honestly ever
since I started to have the deeper thoughts about life my birthday had been
like any other day and then came July the 1st 2014. The day on which
I turned 23. On any other day people would have opened their Facebook and have
seen my name in the top right corner of their home page and then walled their
wishes, but not to be.
To tell you technology has made us dumb, machines are meant to reduce human effort but on the flipside human beings are so dependent on them that we feel like handicap without them. There is a different memory than RAM, HDD, MicroSD, SD, SSD and that is called as Human memory. While I don’t blame these people or anybody else, I honestly appreciate those who use the last one. And also it’s a fact that I remember very well the birthdays of people who matter to me.
The intervening night between 30th June and 1st July arrived and there was one person much more excited about my birthday than me myself- Pacchu. She kept on wishing me even before the stroke of midnight like as if it wasn’t just another birthday but a big festival in itself. Years ago at midnight my friends used to stay awake and there used to be a race called WHO WISHED SAISH FIRST ON HIS BIRTHDAY. Sadly it subsequently died down; they got busy with their lives. Coming back to the day, Vasudha was the first to call up, after being away and talking less during last month or so I didn’t expect it, but being an endearing person she is she did call at the stroke of midnight. The day had come and spotlight was on me, or was it that everyone thought so on their birthday?
More than my own birthday I was looking forward to celebrate it with Pacchu, who had been making me feel it like most looked forward to event of the year and her guitar solo birthday wish made it more special. Okay I won’t talk about her all the time even though she is the one who made it special.
Nostalgia returned when guddu called up in the morning, and mind raced back to 2005 when we were the coolest friends in the colony, her first friend here as she calls me. Hard to believe 9 years passed and we are still the same, although life around pretty much changed.

lDay went on, she(P)came over and we had
what I call, celebration with a difference, sitting on a bench watching the
beauty of nature unfold and the sunlight reflecting from her eyes into
mine. Certainly a day to remember.
And my birthday won’t be complete without mention to my pooh family, loved the collage Neeti made. Trust me it’s one day I felt like being a true celebrity, a day when I was on top of the world. Can’t really mention the names here but you know very well how much you mean to me.
Going back to what I called as “HUMAN MEMORY” in the beginning, I purposefully hid my birthday from facebook friends and trust me it was well worth it, although I was a bit taken aback by the response and I have no hard feelings for those who didn’t, people forget all the time but those who did. Indeed was special.
I would like to end this post with a thought.
“You are a day older today than you were yesterday, and a day younger today than you will be tomorrow”.
It’s hard to believe I am 23 years and 6 days old today. So whoever is reading this, wherever you maybe, whenever your birthday maybe, when the day comes, make it special. It may be just 1 day but it’s the day the heart in your chest began to beat, for a reason, for a cause which is as special as you are.
Love,
SAiSH
